Welcome to Innovating Communities in County Cavan– where the aim is to strengthen local development and community-led action through Design Thinking skills and to work in groups to overcome local challenges collaboratively. 

Cavan County Local Development are delighted to be joining our colleagues across the border region in counties Monaghan, Louth, Leitrim, Donegal and Sligo, to deliver Design Thinking training and processes to our communities to help meet local challenges. We have partnered with Icecream Architecture to deliver this project who have a strong track record in delivering similar projects. We are also very grateful to MANNOK who have come on board as financial partners. 

 

The border region faces unprecedented uncertainty in the coming years with Covid-19, Brexit, Climate Change, and Rural Decline will require an innovative approach to make the best use of the resources available. We believe that Design Thinking can be the vehicle to help tackle these issues and more at a local and county level. 

 

Cavan County Local Development has a long history of supporting innovation locally working on projects affecting the Local Economy Social inclusion and the Rural Environment such as the Ballyjamesduff Courthouse Restoration, Killinkere Community Centre, Parenting Cavan Strategy, The Food Bank initiative and a Meals on Wheels Service as a COVID response. Involving a collaboration effort between CCLD and a range of community organisations, Civil Defence, Cavan County Council and An Garda Siochana. It won a special award at the Pride of Place Awards and was presented as the best example case study at the LEED forum of the OECD on how communities can come together to respond to the crisis. 

 

We are asking all communities in Co. Cavan who are experiencing any challenges to Register on the website at www.innovating.ie/join and log your challenge in the challenge bank. We think that Innovating Communities can give even more people the opportunities to be leading change in their area. Already we are starting to build strong themes for the area such as Climate Change, Renewable energy, biodiversity, tourism, social enterprise, integration of new communities, BREXIT but want to hear more about your ideas for Cavan.
