Friends of Ardee Bog

Friends of Ardee Bog

We are a grassroots, environmental community group based in Ardee. Our aim is to protect, preserve, and promote Ardee Bog. This precious ecosystem is our home and supports an amazing array of wildlife including the endangered Curlew. We are currently undertaking a Design Thinking course based on the challenge of carrying out an ecological survey of a sample area of Ardee Bog and sharing the results with the local community. We also have plenty more projects on the go, such as monitoring for curlew, litter clean-ups in the bog, and organising events for Earth Day and World Curlew Day. Please join us! McGahern Trail

McGahern Trail

Interpretative trail for John McGahern fans with a number of interpretative centres along the way. Between Mohill Fenagh Ballinamore and Aughawillan, the area where he grew up and lived for many years, that inspired a lot of his writing. It could be in conjunction with the development of a greenway based along the old Cavan Leitrim railway which stretches along this route. Tourists are coming to the area to find out where he lived and what inspired him - at the moment we don't offer anything cohesive to that tourist... there are significant opportunities here for these communities....
