You should consider Natural Play as a concept - it's the way the Dept of Children is encouraging Councils to go in playground design. And of course you need to consider the needs of ALL children. Visit Rossmore Park in Monaghan town for a well designed playground which is attracting a LOT of use by groups of children with disabilities and has some natural play features.

Talk to your Council first, because your headaches only start when you open the amenity. If you can get the Council on board and they agree to manage and insure the amenity, that will save you THOUSANDS each year. Councils are insured by Irish Public Bodies mutual insurance, and under the terms of the insurance policy, they are allowed to extend insurance cover to playgrounds NOT in Council ownership, provided they are being MAINTAINED by the Council. But you need to be sure your Council will agree to take in on BEFORE you start, AND that it is up to RoSPA (royal society for prevention of accidents) standard of safety, or else it CAN'T be insured.
